It is not at all the groundwork for what Trump did—Trump has screaming about “cheating” in business and politics (remember the Iowa primary?) for decades. Moreover, *its not just Trump.* Again (which you haven’t addressed), it’s legislation, it’s “audits”, it constant agit prop.

Until you address all of that and either distinguish it from what the Dems did or make a direct argument that these efforts are no different than what the Dems did earlier, your brief must fail. You know how to address/rebut the argument of other advocates. Do it.

You say you are a “classical liberal.” Well, this is right out of Mill—*accurately and fairly* re-present the argument of those who disagree with you *and then* rebut it. Also, in this case, perhaps revise/revisit your views since 11/25/20.

The thing is, your arguments would be much stronger if you actually fairly acknowledged counter-arguments and *only then* rebutting them, rather than assuming they are garbage and not even acknowledging them. Nobody can write a strong polemic without re-presenting and rebutting.

You refuse to engage with what your party did except to deflect.

You’re projecting. I did engage—and I also engaged with what your party did. I said they were not comparable. Your polemic evades a clear comparison, so it lacks persuasive power. If you want to claim the Ds are equal or even worse than Rs, engage the counter-argument.

Basically your argument to be intellectually honest and persuasive needs to do the following: a) Acknowledge there is a counter-argument—that not only Trump (although he’s critical) but the Party as a whole and its media outlets are *much worse than Dems here8—and then *rebut*.

Every single one of your tweets on this has taken the position that nothing can or should be said about Democrats' behavior except by comparative reference to things Trump did after what the Democrats did.

I’ve said it’s an absurd comparison and why. By contrast, you make an argument without engaging/accurately re-presenting the counter-argument which I’ve made—that the GOP effort is more ubiquitous, concerted and encompassing. Do you disagree? Ok, then say why. So…why?

Of course you can’t for exactly the reason I mentioned: there’s no legislation, “audits”, endless propaganda and majority vote count in the House associated with the Dems remarks. Nor an ex and perhaps future president pumping them up. Uh, quite a difference!

Democrats have not proposed new voting & election laws? They have not based policy actions or proposals on the claims of people such as Stacey Abrams? Good to know!

Again, this is an absurd comparison, ie, one side wanting—to underscore our best traditions—to expand voting rights, the other side to suppress them. And then also—the audits, the House R caucus vote, the endless propaganda, Trump’s tremendous influence. Go thru all of that.
