If a politician is willing to lie about the election, he surely would feel no compunction about lying on other topics. A healthy democracy needs fact-allegiant leaders across the political spectrum. https://twitter.com/ddale8/status/1430576880957132811 …

Stolen-election theories & rejections of legitimacy were the stock in trade of Democrats for two decades leading up to 2020https://www.nationalreview.com/2020/11/oh-now-democrats-care-about-legitimacy/ …

I know you keep saying this, but there’s a vast (!!!) difference between the concerted efforts of countless high level politicians on the state and congressional level promoting this lie via various methods—legislation, “audits”, absurd statements—and all of the same being

promoted constantly and a complex of agit prop media outlets and personalities. And, oh, also being promoted constantly by the former president and perhaps future candidate himself. The difference in degree is obviously a difference in kind.

In short, the Party and it media complex are (with some honorable exceptions) driving this narrative and *have not stopped doing so.*

The people I've quoted - such as Jimmy Carter, Hillary Clinton, & Nancy Pelosi - are not exactly marginal figures. John Lewis has his name on the Dems' current election bill. McAuliffe is running for statewide office in 2021.

These are one off remarks, not a concerted party effort. Did they continue? Did blue states enact legislation designed to limit/administrate Democratic votes?Did Democratic state legislatures promote bogus “audits” to undermine the vote count?

A two decade drumbeat of one off remarks, some of them repeatedly one off by the same people over & over. A forest is not a series of isolated incidents of trees growing. I spent two decades warning this was toxic. You still deny that? Even now?

It added up to nothing! (And we will leave aside the merits re 2000). The GOP and its media outlets are relentlessly promoting this and *acting on it* And a demagogue who is also an ex president sustains it! It’s like comparing a pistol to a nuclear submarine.

Your argument would be more persuasive—and you know how to. craft a powerful, yet fair polemic—if you engaged the comparative argument I (and many others) are making and try to rebut it. But, instead, you just ignore it.

Your argument is that Trump retroactively absolves Democrats of their own behavior, which laid the groundwork for what Trump did.

It is not at all the groundwork for what Trump did—Trump has screaming about “cheating” in business and politics (remember the Iowa primary?) for decades. Moreover, *its not just Trump.* Again (which you haven’t addressed), it’s legislation, it’s “audits”, it constant agit prop.

Until you address all of that and either distinguish it from what the Dems did or make a direct argument that these efforts are no different than what the Dems did earlier, your brief must fail. You know how to address/rebut the argument of other advocates. Do it.
