It's the earliest in the nation I think, slightly edging out NC.

I think Minnesota is one more day? Haven't updated this in a while, though.pic.twitter.com/BYP1vW2yUH

I should add that I think 45 days is an obscenely high number of early voting days. Also that I think a federal standard would be useful here to maximize the benefit (id say 10-14 days but whatever)

Why? I'm not a huge fan of early voting - I'd probably prefer something like Saturday - Tuesday elections with very long hours and low-bar absentees - but if you're going the other way, I don't seen any particular reason that 6 weeks is worse than 2.

I mean there's a bit of a Sorites paradox here, I suppose. To me two weeks just seems like a compromise between trying to give people with fixed schedules or travel who want to an opportunity to vote in person while getting ppl voting with the same basic info.

I don't care at all about same basic info. I care about making it easy to vote and I'm at least sort of interested in the value of voting as a communal experience, something that I'm sad about losing. But I don't think there's a good argument for the same basic info thing.

(With the exception of presidential primaries, where the sequential nature of them is undermined by long voting windows; I'd sacrifice some ease-of-voting in those.)

Early voting in POTUS primaries is how Rubio finished ahead of Kasich in a primary held like a week after Rubio dropped out.
