We were long past the point where we should be fighting Afghanistan's war for it. But really, we hadn't been carrying the lead role or anything like it for the past 7 years, at least.
In terms of air power, sure. Not the same as how people are casting the ground war.

A non-lead role where we have to continuously prop up ground forces with cash, advisers, embeds, contractors, as well as drop thousands of bombs across the country every year in perpetuity or they'll drop out of the war entirely still seems like a pretty significant role

In this scenario, we'd also have to be fighting more directly again, since whatever deal we had with the Taliban last year would presumably no longer be operative
