He dumped the financial losses on other people, but the point is, in business unlike in politics, he allowed himself to separate his ego investment in his enterprises to an extent that he could walk away from the table instead of being a slave to sunk costs.

Here’s the difference: in business, his imperative, yes, is always to avoid losing money. If his ego contradicted that, then he just changed what his ego would extol, eg, praising his genius bankruptcies.

In politics, victory and only victory (and thus retention of office) could be tore to business opportunities. There’s no equivalent of bankruptcy protection—although, effectively he sought that.
