Yes. Unfortunately, most of these places would be illegal to build today, as virtually every municipality in the country imposes some kind of restriction on front and side setbacks, minimum lot size, maximum lot coverage, parking minimums and use segregation.

That narrow, wedge-shaped building would almost certainly be "open space" on any modern site plan. In fact, that intersection would be disallowed by most modern fire departments.
