If I mention that I’m reading a book about the 47 rōnin of Akō, does anyone have an idea of what I’m talking about, or am I being my weird self again?
Would also recommend Keene's Emperor of Japan & Marius Jansen's Making of Modern Japan.

The Last Samurai, which was largely fictional (although cinematically beautiful), still had a kernel of truth in being based on the Satsuma Rebellion. Which I should probably read more about.

Saigo Takamori was such an interesting man.
