Priests exercise a unique position of power that is inextricably linked to their vow of celibacy. And the abuses of that position have had a particular pattern we should not go out of our way to ignore.

To be clear, my own objection here is that publishing people’s private ap usage and data should be illegal. It’s a gross invasion of privacy. If he’s suspected of doing something illegal, that’s why we have warrants.

but there's no evidence at all that his partners knew he was a priest? or that he ever had sex with someone he encountered in a religious setting, let alone someone he encountered in a religious setting and had any sort of authority over?

I'd agree with you if this guy had been having sex with parishioners, or junior priests/seminarians. Clearly that would have potential to be deeply problematic from a power differential point of view. But two anonymous adult men meeting for consensual sex on an app is different
