My main take on Scottie Pippen charging racism in the ball going to Toni Kukoc is that race is a major, but never spoken, obvious subtext of the Last Dance episode on Krause's interest in Kukoc, Pippen & Jordan resenting that, & them thinking Kukoc must be soft.

You go back and look at the NBA of that era, American players of all stripes were not considered soft. The Euros definitely had no idea what kind of physicality they were facing.

I grew up in the 1990s a pretty decent basketball player in a mixed race area (where our HS team was unsurprisingly really good). The "soft" thing was almost all being a Euro.

It had to be because he was from Croatia. Nobody on the Bulls ever charged John Paxson, Luc Longley, Steve Kerr, etc. with being soft,
