Netanyahu's argument is, obviously, premised upon being vindicated in the courts. That may prove wrong, but it is hardly implausible.

There have, of course, been electoral comebacks after prison, ranging from Louis-Napoleon to Marion Barry, but I doubt that Likud would stick with him if he is convicted & sent to jail.
