Especially given that this is a search for a natural phenomenon. It's not as if the bats got together and covered it up.

My quibble with
@jimgeraghty 's excellent reporting is that his link describes a search in Hubei province. Believe it or not, the WHO is exhorting the Chinese to study animals in Yunnan province, where the bats and wet market suppliers are. Its interesting to see Daszak making excuses for the "implausible" Chinese delay in looking in the most obvious place. He mentions lockdowns but those were mostly gone before last summer.
