Reminder, on the 90th birthday of the great Willie Mays: Mays missed 274 games, nearly two full seasons, to military service, age 21-22. He needed only 24 HR per 162 games in that missed time to reach 700 career HR. Averaged 25 in 1951-52, 44 in 1954.

As great and legendary as he was, he would have been even more so if the Giants had not left NY. I believe the Polo Grounds was a park more conducive to HR hitting, and he was never as beloved in SF as in NY.
