What I believe in is, essentially, the classical liberal order championed by Abraham Lincoln. Democracy is one of the components of that, but it has never been the only one.

I think you and I have already agreed. You believe your preferred economic system supersedes democracy; I believe the reverse.

That's the point of disagreement. We have no disagreement over the First Amendment, except perhaps to particular applications -- which, like most any principle, have some wiggle in the joints.

When you change the laws in order to win then there are no laws and ultimately no one wins. The cynical can make what ever justifications they like to conceal their political expediency but those on the other side see it no matter how it’s rationalized.
