Q: If Ohtani is pitching, is he considered a pitcher in the lineup, or the DH? IOW, if he is removed from pitching, can he still bat?

I think by rule they can't use a DH if the pitcher is hitting.

But if he is removed from the game...then what? The pitcher who replaces him has to bat (or they have to use a PH)?

His position is pitcher, so if he's relieved, he'd have to leave the game. Unless they moved him to another position on the field. But if they did that the pitcher would still have to hit. No DH. It happens like once a year an AL team loses the DH in a game for whatever reason.

Then it works like the NL with the pitcher. Such is my understanding.
@baseballcrank might have a better grasp of it.1 reply 0 retweets 0 likes
Yes, the downside is that if the pitcher bats to start the game, you play without a DH, old school style.
