If the demand actually existed why hasn’t it been built? If the demand was high enough they wouldn’t need subsidies maybe just some deregulation.

What comments like these miss is that this proposal is all about choice. For example, If you live in Little Rock, and want to get to Memphis, you can take the Texas route or the Chicago route, two options that don't currently exist in any practical form.
