Ohio has had a law for years against approaching voters at the polling places. See Ohio Rev. Code Ann. § 3501.30(A)(4). Ditto Louisiana. Louisiana Rev. Statutes § 18-1462(A). DC gives precinct officials broad discretion to stop anything within 50 feet they think might interfere.https://twitter.com/gelbach/status/1376933175453229069 …

Looking forward to @baseballcrank's story about this bill. In addition to the prohibition on "giving or attempting to give any item", it's quite a thing to prohibit "interacting with or attempting to interact with any voter". Just imagine if Florida or Georgia was trying to pass this, which is already law in DC:pic.twitter.com/PYKOKxutGR

Yes, Virginia has a prohibition very similar to Ohio's:pic.twitter.com/UVBR8b0TwJ

At my Cincinnati Catholic grade school which served as a polling place our 8th grade civics teacher told us there was a designated spot that people passing out voting literature on election day were not allowed to cross in order to comply with state law. It wasn't controversial.

That's true. Precinct workers put out flags marking the point past which you're not allowed to electioneer. I've worked the polls many times handing out literature, for myself, other candidates, or ballot issues. Voters usually have to run the gantlet before walking to the poll.

These statutes all have clearly defined distances from the polling place at which they no longer apply. Extending the boundary to infinity (25 ft from any voter in line to vote) is what makes GA's different and new. But you know that don't you.
