Like many of the commonsense voting rules Republicans have championed for decades, it's implemented with minimal controversy in many democracies.https://twitter.com/gtconway3d/status/1376214243385704452 …

I could go either way on requiring ID to vote, and I do think it's being advocated by today to support a false narrative of electoral fraud, but it does appear that most democracies do require ID for either registration or voting: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Voter_identification_laws …

Maybe the most bizarre feature of voting-law controversies is the people who 1) spent four solid years arguing that we should be terrified about hostile foreign actors meddling in our elections but 2) now say we need no safeguards for our voting process.

The Democrats' stance on voter fraud & election reform is like a guy who says "see, measles aren't a widespread problem anymore in 2021!" then refuses to have his kids vaccinated against measles.

Yes, what's not bizarre is tightening rules when no evidence of widespread abuse or fraud was found

So, do we think it is better to wait until widespread fraud occurs before we implement common sense prevention?

Since at least Karl rove, top Republicans have been searching for evidence of widespread voter fraud - and have come up empty every time. That's why it is nonsensical to bring up the Trump campaign's awful dealings with Russia to sell these obvious suppression attempts anyway.

Oh they've found voter fraud, but it was people voting republican.

Safeguards are fine if there is a genuine effort to make sure all eligible voters can vote. Adding requirements for the sole purpose of stopping certain class of voters from voting are hard to support.

.For me, the most bizarre part of said controversies is the acceptance of the "ID hurts minorities" trope. It's SUCH a racist notion. If you posited that Jews were incapable of getting their lives together and getting an ID, there would be outcry. Somehow, it's "fine."

Not one of the "reforms" the GOP is now proposing has anything to do with the type of foreign interference that has actually occurred.
