Ah—still with the risible hypocrisy argument. It is banally and pervasively applicable—Reagan opposed Medicare until he didn’t. The list goes on. Make an argument on the merits. And find a reader of your drafts who will push you to construct, at least, arguable claims.

If you're going to argue that a position is morally reprehensible and unforgivably tainted by historic association with racism, it illustrates your insincerity to have vigorously defended the same position in the past as a bulwark of fairness & integrity. Surely you know this.

As I just wrote, Reagan thought the worst about medicare but made his piece with it. That’s not how the social history of ideas happens—ideology and power relationships change and politicians reflect those changes, they are not usually primary actors. FDR *opposed the NLRA*

the year before it passed, blocked it from even being considered*! The tribune of the emergent US working class only reluctantly signed “Labor’s Magna Carta.” So this is the least interesting way to think about what’s going on here.

This sort of argument is the result of thinking rigid binary moral thinking. It's ok to have nuanced views and it's also ok for those views to change.

There's absolutely nothing inconsistent with the following: 1) the filibuster is closely associated with Jim Crow but still useful sometimes 2) the filibuster has been so terribly abused for the last 10+ years that it should be reformed or scrapped.

silly take... surely you know that people are capable of growth on any issue when they deal with it honestly and objectively and listen to other people’s perspectives... oh wait... you don’t... you still proudly wave your Reaganite banner as if it’s not morally embarrassing...
