Saying the quiet part out loud: the purpose of court-packing is specifically to threaten the courts in order to prevent them from exercising independent constitutional judgment.https://twitter.com/brianbeutler/status/1367116476864413697 …

The tell in nascent Republican attacks against HR1 is the unsupported claim that the legislation is unconstitutional. It’s a signal to loyalists on the bench, and why Dems need to move fast, and at least brandish the threat of expanding the courts. https://twitter.com/Mike_Pence/status/1367088000602157061 …

I'm not sure people understand quite how many different, drastic changes HR 1 is trying to make to our systems of speech, voting, & elections simultaneously. It's like six different radical, overreaching bills stuffed into a single sausage.

The anti-free speech provisions of HR 1 present the most glaring constitutional problems, but a federal takeover of state elections & the drawing of Congressional districts presents significant federalism issues as well.

Some of these are spirit-of-the-Constitution issues, which are properly the job of Congress, not the courts, to decide, but beyond a certain point, Congress can't just abolish state functions that are contemplated by the text & have existed since the Founding.

I mean, yeah, that sounds bad, but what did the GOP expect after spending the last three months throwing away all of their credibility on the issue of elections?

Horsepucky. HR 1 simply seeks to set national standards for federal elections, so that the GOP can't continue their state by state war on minority voters and all access voting. Packing the courts is a completely separate issue, and but it's also quite legal.

I both: 1) Don't care for HR1 2) Don't like Republicans rolling back voting rights How come Georgia Republicans don't like church going Christians voting on Sunday? Yes, I am being troll here, but it really seems like GA Republicans should avoid attacking people religion.

Voting rights are the prime issue that gets exaggerated by both Republicans and Democrats in that Republicans this will win them the election and Democrats scream barriers too large. Republicans maybe should stop looking for voting barriers. WE ARE NOT MAKING A VOTING HOLIDAY!
