It's certainly possible that failing to confirm Tanden was wrong because we should all get past some insults and it's really not that important. But it's not an issue of cancellation.

To me cancel culture is also related to somebody's proximity to power. Ordinary people getting fired because they become subject to some online mob is a lot different from Senators taking issue with a nominee's public statements before putting them in a position of power.

There are all sorts of opinions that can & should get you blocked from Senate confirmation that should not prevent you from acting on a TV show or being a programmer for a tech company.
