More importantly, columns can usually be edited before publication. A Tweet correcting another Tweet usually gets lost in the "forwarding" process; with a column, corrections survive.

How about this one too: when somebody publicly apologizes to you for doing you wrong (as they should, but that too rarely happens on twitter), acknowledge this by writing to them, “Thanks for doing that.”

I think you and I have different ideas about what courtesy requires in that situation. If I clarify or correct something I said before, I'm doing so primarily for my credibility and for my readers' information. I assume the same of any writer.
