There is no compelling substantive argument against the minimum wage: the economic literature suggests few negatives effects AND it's very very popular politically. Capital doesn't like it: that's it. That's the story, here.

Well done. Basically what's been accomplished by squashing national minimum increases over the last 40-50 years is making some states little pockets of the third world. It makes sense, but only from a limited point of view that would be thrilled with that outcome.

The number of full time adult workers making exactly $7.25 is much less relevant a data point than the number of full time adult workers making *below* $15. The CBO scored this number at 17 million workers in 2025.
