Balancing of federalism is tricky and definitely imperfect.

You have framed the issue incorrectly. The legal question is whether the US supreme court should be able to review state court interpretations of a state constitution. Also, you have failed to identify what provision of the US Constitution you claim is being violated.

I believe the question is: Does a state’s Supreme Court have the ability/authority to change election laws when the Constitution states election laws are left up to state legislatures?

SCOTUS has long held that state supreme courts determine the meaning of and compliance with their own constitutions. There was nothing in this case that should cause them to rethink that position, as there was not a violation of federal law or the Constitution.
