My latest Democrats could have created space for Republicans to convict Trump. So why didn’t they? https://www.independent.co.uk/voices/impeachment-trial-democrats-republicans-convict-b1800545.html …

Every time a House Democrat speaks in this trial, the smarm & rhetorical overreaching just drip off the screen. It's very hard for Republicans to watch the videos & want to acquit, but it's hard to listen to these guys for hours on end & consider voting with them.

Senators should, and likely will, mostly make up their own minds - and nearly all 100 of them already had before the trial started. That said, it is natural & human to react to how the two sides make their case.https://twitter.com/adamwinkler/status/1359581548660465667 …

Is this right? The legal questions should be decided on the merits, regardless of the quality of the lawyers presenting the arguments. A bad advocate with a meritorious case should win. It’s not a sporting competition where whoever scored the most points wins. https://twitter.com/johnastoehr/status/1359579803582484480 …

He's only an albatross if the Republican Senators don't convict. That decision is *100%* on Republican Senators.

lol there's more than ample "space" for Republicans to convict Trump. Beginning with his obvious guilt.

Here's the fun part: There's no excuse for the Republicans letting him off. They don't have to. They're entirely choosing to do so. It's the Republicans committing suicide and saying "Why are the democrats making us do this?"

It's the Dems fault the Republicans won't act in the best interest of the country or their own supposed morality. Sure.
