And rightly so. The consequences of what she said were foreseeable, just as in Trump's case. It is rough justice to have different outcomes when only 1 of the 2 ends in violence, but sometimes, when violence has been done, rough justice must follow.https://twitter.com/chrislhayes/status/1359238637683146758 …

"Two people played with matches, we only punished the one who actually set an accidental fire" may not be perfect justice, but it is how things often work in the real world.

Yes, and if there had been something preceding that shooting that was more like the 2-month campaign of word & deed that led up to Jan 6, I'd have been willing to abandon my usual presumption that we don't hold politicians responsible for violence by their followers.

One, it's not my standard, it's the Framers'. They deliberately left "High Crimes and Misdemeanors" open-ended outside of treason & bribery to account for the variety of betrayals of the duties of statesmanship possible among public men.

The protections against overreaching that standard are political & structural, not legal. And the reason Trump's case is a unique course of conduct is his behavior, not the law. He committed a unique, sustained assault on American democracy, resulting in unique consequences.

Sure but I disagree. And you’re only possible response is that you feel differently. But I’m gonna win.

One can argue anything based on the raw will to power. But having done so, you fall back on the idea that Republicans will always have a popular majority at their back to do what they will, and no defense if ever they do not.
