Seems those founders thought that having representatives from every state was a high enough bar. Funny enough to remove a member of congress it only takes the voters in their own state.

Trumps lawyer admitted, on the senate floor, that Trump lost the election. What does that do for the 30 or so cases still percolating through the system? How does Trump say it was rigged if his Lawyer said he lost? This was worth the impeachment.

They’re more akin to civil law or equity judges (eg Delaware Court of Chancery) - juror is a misnomer but the role of the senators is properly described as judicial in the broader sense
