I actually don't think this is the case. Jeb! was always the weaker politician of the two Bush brothers. Remember that Dubya won his race for governor in 1994. He was always the more natural politician of the two as in he actually like campaigns and politics.

Probably the most important thing to look for in backing a politician is do they "actually like campaigns and politics". Which is what statewide race experience really answers, it's easy to run in safe district its a lot harder to run statewide where winning is rarely assured.

Jeb excited...absolutely no one. Endorsing his brother’s disastrous Iraq war was also the nail in the coffin. DeSantis is the real deal it seems, but 2-3 years is a long time in politics.
