I'd argue that the Tea Party believed in things when they were all libertarians at first. Then they got co-opted by the proto-Trumpists and were only angry at the world.

Uh, no. Since the Tea Party members happily and immediately jumped on the big -deficits Trump train. Even in 2008 and 2010, their "platform" was incoherent. "Tea Party Patriots" -and I lived surrounded by them -was/is a synonym for "hate a black guy being president. " full stop.
