Which is fair. And I'm generally sympathetic to the point that party leadership has less room for dissent than party membership. But it seems there ought to be some room to consider that Cheney is, you know, right.

Members I spoke with have no problem, per se, with a member voting for impeachment. They have tremendous problem with a leader whipping votes for it, rolling it out for maximum pain to conference. Combined with, yes, her primary interference, dismal fundraising/recruitment...

Keep in mind that committee ranking members get punished for not supporting the caucus in rules votes, etc. ... that also bothers members -- the double standards here for an even higher ranking member.

Yeah, pretty much nobody in the House thinks the Democrats rushed impeachment push was anything close to being about one man. They understand it's about dividing the party from its voters and setting the members against each other. Thus their frustration w/ those who fell for it.

I think the Democrats were in a position where what most of them sincerely wanted (Send an unmistakable message to Trump and history) overlapped nicely with political expediency. Sup with the devil, bring a long spoon. An old lesson re-learned by Reps.

Interestingly, that is also in dispute. In early impeachments the House resolution instructed the managers to go to the Senate and impeach whomever. 2021 presentation was post-Trump.)
