I've never understood why the party of personal responsibility keeps nominating people born in third base with Barry Bonds at the plate.

So Reagan, Ford, Coolidge? That’s it for the 20th Century. Not a bad list, all quality men.

Nixon ‘60 also qualifies.

Does losing the '76 GOP Presidential nomination count as "losing a national election"?

Going further back, Ford '76 had never won a national election. Nixon ('68, '72) had lost in 1960. Senator Goldwater '64? Offhand I'd say he makes the grade. Ike '52? Never won an election.

Dewey lost twice; Hoover and Wilkie never won an elected office so maybe Coolidge who won a ton of elections before being WGH running mate
