62 million Americans voted for George W. Bush. 61 million voted for Mitt Romney. 60 million voted for John McCain. Why is it not considered a personal insult to those voters to criticize those men in the most caustic of terms?

There may have been some of that, but to be outraged at Obama for playing so much golf and to give Trump a pass when he played even more golf is clearly criticism based on racial overtones and nothing to do with anything else at all.

This was not a common refrain. When it was, it is possible that some criticism warranted that response. Of course, much wouldn't. At its worst, it is a little like being called anti-semitic for criticizing Israel. Some of that criticism is, in fact, anti-semitic. Most is not.
