I remember watching Leahy & thinking he was too old & slow for his job during the Clarence Thomas hearings. That was 30 years ago.

Roberts would rather die than preside over this, and I don’t blame him
-
He presided over the last one.

Wow! I guess asking him to recuse is a non-starter? Does he still get to vote? Judge, Jury, and Executioner all in one. How efficient! I don’t even like Trump, but this is unbelievable.
-
The President (or President Pro-Tem) of the Senate has always presided over Senate impeachment trials, except when a (sitting) President is being tried. This is not new at all.

So you know history for every Supreme Court pick to justify your partisan Point of view for appointing justices.... but in situation it’s “ taken the question” from Chief Justice? in 2010 pro tem senator presided over an impeachment

What? That's flagrantly unconstitutional. Unless they mean to argue that Trump isn't being impeached as President, in which case what exactly is he?
-
The argument is that impeachment is not just meant as a means to remove office holders, but also is meant prevent them from holding office again, and so can be used on ex-office holders. He's being tried as an ex-office holdet not the President, so no chief justice.

So, it's just a politically motivated show trial.
