I also like him now more than I ever liked him then and I’m sure I’m not alone.

Look I'm a liberal Democrat but you should love McConnell as much as I loathe him. You think Bill Frist could've gotten those three SCOTUS justices on the court like that?

Fact.

“Let’s jettison our most effective legislator for the guy who cost us the presidency and the Senate” is a very serious argument that is certainly not made for cheap clicks

If you're trying to ditch Mitch, you're no longer playing to win.

But win what? The judges are great. But he has little interest in the working class or culture war issues. He’s the old guard.

Judges are the point of fighting the culture war issues. And frankly, if you think we should move on from small govt fiscal conservatism to a more working-class party, that's where Mitch was all along. He was the enemy of the Tea Party.

Judges are a back stop. They can’t win culture wars. We had conservative judges all year and millions of people still couldn’t go to church while people protested in the street.

I agree that they are not the only element, just the most important one in terms of actual governance. But leading culture war battles is not the role of the Senate Leader anyway. His job is to move, or stop, the trains.

But he was quite clear he played footsie with impeachment to divorce Trump from the party. I take that to mean Trumpism as well. That can’t and won’t happen.

Well, Trumpism only to the extent that Trumpism means placing the personal interests of Donald Trump above all the other things the party could be doing. THAT was the aspect of Trumpism on display from 11/4 to 1/6. THAT cost Senate seats & triggered a riot. THAT must go.

Not at the expense of abandoning the issues Trump championed that allowed him to take over the party. The voters won’t go for it.

How is at at that expense? In what way? The whole point is that even the issues he championed were thwarted by his behavior. Unless by "issues" you mean lying about who won the election. Mitch isn't pushing a policy rethinking at all.
