A week ago there was a report saying that Mitch is leaning towards conviction. Of course, if he does that it will be one of the most important moments in the modern U.S., but I have the sense he will not do it if he can't get 17 to vote yes.

McConnell behaves rationally, not emotionally. It doesn’t matter how angry he is with Trump, he will calculate a course of action he believes most consistent with achieving an optimal outcome consistent with his values (especially when there are no “good” options).
