I will always hate Barry Bonds, as I have since the 1980s, but the Hall of Fame is diminished without him.https://twitter.com/billjamesonline/status/1339721923853430784 …

I agree. It's the Hall of Fame...not the Hall of Choirboys...with the exception of Orenthal James of course...

Very complex feelings about this. Pete Rose, one of baseball's best, let us down in a leadership role. Like cops, held to a higher standard maybe? Bonds (with steroids that enabled faster workout recovery) still had to get the bat on the ball, muscles or not. Argh...complicated!

The Hall proved long ago it's no venerable institution. Do most fans even take it seriously anymore?

Is what Roger Clemens did pre-1997 enough to get him in? He close to doubled his career numbers due to steroids.

Only two ways they make it in. Most likely: old-timers committee. Correct way: take the vote away from baseball writers. (Present company excluded, of course.) Give the vote to current, living hof members. Or anyone with a 3 digit IQ.

You can say what you want about the steroids, but Bonds was the most proficient hitter I’ve ever seen. There’s nowhere in the batter’s box where a pitch was safe.
