Beginning to feel that a lot of this—aside from the rank misogyny and elitism that was the original core of the WSJ piece—is more conservative backlash against expertise, fact, science, learning, research, empiricism, the humanities, etc etc. It’s frankly boring.

To get a PhD you have to prove knowledge and accomplish a lot. You literally don’t get a degree without passing 4 comprehensive exams + essentially writing a book length research project.
