Neil Young's HARVEST is actually the *worst* album of his '70s career (well, outside of AMERICAN STARS & BARS, but that's a bizarre pseudo-comp). I don't mean it as a backhanded compliment either, as in "because they're all so great!" I mean that it's dull as dishwater. Snooze.
Multiple pretty-good songs on Harvest, but the overall mopeyness of the thing is missing the electric guitar rock.

He also did a ton of fantastic acoustic/folk stuff (including later live archival releases) that's just far more interesting and energetic. Go check out COMES A TIME! That's a *great* album!

I confess that I know quite a few Neil Young songs (including the 2 'hits' on Comes a Time) but the only albums I've listened to end to end are Harvest, Live Rust, Freedom, Mirrorball, & Americana. It will not surprise you that Live Rust is my favorite by far.
