If you are implying that there were more undetected cases earlier that is flat out wrong. The positivity rate is currently MUCH higher than previously, and implies that the ratio of undetected to detected cases is higher than previously.

That would be correct if the sampling was done randomly, but it's not and wasn't. We have no idea how many undetected asymptomatic cases there were earlier in the year.

Actual cases does not provide enough info about the virus. Better measurements are deaths, hospitalizations, and testing positivity rate.
