I made that point to one of my law professors, who was a federal district court judge. Making it a medical procedure akin to euthanasia makes it too easy to impose. If the State has literal blood on its hands, it’ll have the appropriate gravity.

Back when the death penalty was a more debated issue, I used to argue that if we were to have it, we should have hangings on the courthouse lawn and other public spaces, for if we as a society deemed it necessary, we should face its reality.
