No conspiracy required to explain ticket-splitting: Many college-educated suburban Indies voted D in '18 because it was the *only* way they could protest Trump. In '20 they could vote against Trump *directly* and go back to voting R downballot as they had often done before '18.

Neither side wants to concede the fact that right leaning moderates and never trump former Republicans decided the election. It kills every single partisan talking point for both sides.
