Lawmaker here or there is 1 thing, but there is simply no way for a president to pressure multiple state legislatures to do this if neither he, nor his White House, nor his campaign is even willing to go on the record publicly advocating it. A big part of the job of Republicans who are talking to Trump & his close advisors in the coming weeks is to convince them to figure out a face-saving exit strategy for when this inevitably does not happen, so he does not decide to take the party down like Samson in the temple.

Trump is never, ever, ever going to publicly concede that Joe Biden beat him fair & square. We all know that. But he eventually will acknowledge that he's leaving. Question is, does he pin the blame on Democrats, media, etc, or does he turn on Rs?

If you're any sort of Republican or conservative, you should want to avoid the latter. In 1916, GOP lost bc of peevish lingering bitterness from 1912 that led Charles Evans Hughes (the nominee) to refuse to campaign in CA with Hiram Johnson. This re-elected WOODROW WILSON.
