This is literally how our system has always worked. Legislatures pass laws, sometimes those laws go too far, and judges decide if that's the case. It's called checks and something something.....

As one dude said today, it's not like the election snuck up on anyone. I think you're right - shit is gonna get REALLY BAD if this non-trivial chance happens. Prob will no matter what the situation is. I personally think the extensions are ridiculous.
