Democrats' concerted litigation strategy is to get courts to throw out neutral rules written by elected legislatures, in favor of judge-written ad hoc rules, then complain when anybody tries to stop them. The question is whether we have any rules at all, & if so, who makes them.https://twitter.com/DavidAFrench/status/1321807118811516929 …

I'm a republican but that's kinda silly. If someone mails time and gets clogged up that's not their fault. They did their part and because of the virus lot of mail causing issues. Is there a "good" reason to not be nuanced here because of the situation besides "rules are rules?"
-
It's not a case of "does it make sense to change the rules," it's a case of "who gets to change the rules." Legislatures legislate.

Does postmarking ever take more than 24 hours though? Right now, the USPS is warning that in-state delivery takes more than a week, and they can't currently guarantee any time limits. You're comparing a teacup of uncertainty to an ocean.

It's been this way for decades, non-controversial, something Republicans, who generally benefitted from mail-in, more often rigorously defended against bitter Democrats. But now we see that it was insincere, because at the last minute... rules need to change to own the libs.

The post office is not a voting station. But that’s going to be the case made in the courts.

Yes, by putting their ballot in the mail by the last mail pickup time on Election Day. That’s a deadline voters can take clear steps to meet. A deadline that depends on the vagaries delivery processing times of the post office & is therefore out of the voters control isn’t fair.

This seems.... highly persuasive

You mean...*gasp*...be responsible? Like we used to when we had to mail checks to the credit card company and make sure they got them in time?
-
You were always taking a risk your payment wouldn't get there in time, and invariably I'm sure that some people who were responsible about it still had their payment lost or delayed in the mail. Also, credit card payments generally have grace periods, so bad example all around.
