Some of us spent years making that very point to the people who were pushing the "two electorates" thing to the progressives who used it as a club against majorities elected in midterm years. But willed historical amnesia is a powerful thing.

I guess there's maybe a general valid point that high turnout favors Dems, but it's seemingly less significant than the incumbent POTUS taking a hit. I can't speak to this willed historical amnesia thing and honestly don't remember people talking about this issue

Fascinating how “it’s conventional wisdom that midterm demographics are friendlier to Republicans” somehow translates to “Democrats hate midterms and use them as a club against Republican majorities. If I look hard enough I’m sure I’ll find the logic in there somewhere!
