It’s insane that we don’t have a national holiday for Election Day. Presidents’ Day Columbus Day Memorial Day Labor Day Independence Day Yet no Election Day.

Insane for who?
-
Insane for Republicans, white nationalists, and plutocrats, who have almost become interchangeable.

I’m with Dan. There is a sense of dilution of the national will with long voting periods, and a feel that the system is being gamed. I’d actually appreciate it if someone could direct me to some articles making the case for a shorter (say, long weekend) voting period.

Like
@baseballcrank, you're only saying this because you know that a much shorter voting period would hurt the Democrats.

Multiple weeks of early voting is only insane to you because it helps the Democratic Party. Frankly, there is absolutely no civic value in being forced to wait in long lines for hours and possibly not voting if something serious comes up.
-
And the only people who probably really need to wait to vote until Election Day or Week are the very few undecided voters left. Furthermore, in this 24/7 news environment, if you can't decide whom to vote for until Election Day, then you're probably too ignorant to vote anyway.
