When the SCOTUS vacancy arose, I thought the Barrett hearings would be even uglier than the Kavanaugh hearings because of the upcoming elections. In fact, the Barrett hearings were far more respectful precisely because of the upcoming elections.https://twitter.com/McCormackJohn/status/1316493971422613506 …

Lack of credible rape allegations didn't stop the Kavanaugh hearings from being a zoo.

It was an uncorroborated allegation with no contemporaneous accounts. There was no pattern of abuse by the accused. The accuser's best friend said the details of the allegation "didn't make any sense." https://www.nationalreview.com/2019/10/brett-kavanaugh-confirmation-what-weve-learned-one-year-later/ …pic.twitter.com/28U62qXVcf

as much as I would love to relitigate this episode with you, it's completely irrelevant to my point, which is that Kavanaugh was the subject of rape allegations considered credible by a plurality of the country and most Democrats.

so if we stipulate your apparent belief that Blasey Ford is a vengeful liar, the fact remains that her story seemed credible to Democrats and this was an important motivating force for them.

I never said she was a "vengeful liar." You can read my tweet to see what I actually said. My point is that we should objectively consider allegations before declaring them credible. Have you ever reconsidered your Swetnick take? https://www.nationalreview.com/2018/10/kavanaugh-case-for-confirmation-allegations-explained/ …https://nymag.com/intelligencer/2018/09/julie-swetnicks-allegations-brett-kavanaugh-withdraw.html …

Swetnick was in no way, shape, or form more credible than Tara Reade.
