Another problem with the "national popular vote" argument for Senate midterms: In 2018, Democratic incumbents had 24 of the 33 seats up for reelection. The Senate maps in a given year often aren't representative of the nation's political composition as a whole.

But that’s precisely the problem with the argument that voters gave Reps a mandate on this issue by expanding their representation in the senate in ‘18. There was no way any other outcome was going to happen.
