Under Casey Stengel, Whitey Ford pitched an irregular schedule, often spotted vs contenders & ace pitchers. Only once cleared 226 innings, 30 starts. Relied on his defense: 3.46 FIP, 2.70 ERA. Post-Casey, 1961-65, averaging 37 GS, 260 IP/yr, he cut loose: 2.99 FIP, 2.85 ERA.

1957-62, Whitey Ford started 12 World Series games w/a 1.95 ERA, allowing just 1 home run in 83 innings while facing Hank Aaron, Willie Mays, Frank Robinson, Eddie Mathews, Orlando Cepeda, & Roberto Clemente. (Giants wouldn't even use Willie McCovey against him).
