And the Dems also flipped, now claiming we should wait until after the election (because it benefits them). When it didn’t benefit them they wanted the Senate to “do their job”. Jesus, bro, this ain’t that hard.

The Dems haven’t actually flipped. The sitting president should get to have his nominee considered and voted on, even in an election year. But we also expect the when the other party makes a rule to our detriment, that they don’t change it back when it’s to our advantage.

You mean the Dems haven’t had the votes to enact the Biden Rule. One of us understands this. The other lives in unicorn fairy land and pretends they wouldn’t if they had the chance. Dems flipped their talking points to benefit them, just like Reps did.

No, they don’t. And if Dems won the Senate and the House, Republicans won’t have the votes to prevent them from adding justices. You see how two can play this game?

Yes I do. And the fact that a significant number of your team is cheering on court packing just proves my point. But “only Republicans are violating norms” is your bullshit cry. 🤡

The Dems are just reacting to what Republicans have already done. We’re just returning the serve.

Republicans lived 30+ yrs with a liberal court and never once brought up the idea of packing the court when they took power. But sure. Go with what you said.

Packing the courts is what McConnell has been doing during the entire Trump administration. And he blocked Obama nominations before that so that a Republican president would have plenty of vacancies to fill.

N.B. This is not the historically most common use of the term, though. That would be the expansion that FDR threatened and that some Dems have suggested now. I’ve seen a number of discussions tripped up by confusion about the two different uses of the term “court packing.”

“Packing the courts” means filling them with people who would likely rule in your favor, as I understand it. Yes, adding seats and filling them with your own candidates is packing the courts. But so is McConnell’s strategy of blocking Dem nominees and pushing through Republicans’

That's like saying civil war means disagreeing with people from other states. Nope,. Court-packing has a specific meaning anchored to FDR's 1937 plan to add more Justices.
