The most Bob Gibson story, from 1968: he beaned Tommie Agee with the first pitch of the first game of spring training. Ruined Agee's season. Gibson backed down for nobody.

I was 14 yo when he had that incredible year (ERA = 1.1) and can still remember it vividly. Most dominant year by a pitcher EVER. They lowered the mound the next season b/c of Gibson. RIP.

Recall watching Gibson paired against Drysdale at Dodger Stadium attempting to break Drysdale's record of consecutive scoreless innings. I'd have to look up year, but I was in 3rd/4th grade, so maybe 66 or 67? Neither guy bothered by throwing inside!

Simply the best. Remember listening to the games at night on KMOX - volume very low - when I was supposed to be sleeping.
